Student Eligibility and Admission Criteria
Candidates for the Certificate Program in HPHE will have
- a bachelors of arts or science degree in a health related field with an earned GPA >3.0. Students may be admitted on a provisional basis with a GPA of >2.6 upon discretion of the Allied Health Graduate Certificate Program Coordinator.
- documentation of one or more years related experience in heath promotion and/or health education. Students without prior related experience in health promotion and health education must complete a 120 hour externship approved by the Allied Health Graduate Certificate Coordinator prior to receipt of the graduate certificate in HPHE.
Examples of related experience include employment, internships, or volunteer hours in health promotion, health education, community program organization, health program management, or other activities as approved by the Allied Health Graduate Certificate Program Coordinator.
Requirements for Students Currently Enrolled in a Graduate Degree Program
- Graduate students currently enrolled in an MS or PhD degree program who wish to complete the Allied Health Graduate Certificate in HPHE must submit a letter of intent and documentation of one or more years of related experience in health promotion and/or health education to the Director of the Graduate Program in Allied Health. They should also submit the completed graduate application form (on the Graduate school website) to the Graduate Records Office.
- Students in the Plan B track of the MS degree in Allied Health without prior experience will be required to complete GPAH 5314 (Project-3 credits) and GPAH 5317 (Practicum-5 credits) in a health promotion/health education related activity approved by the Graduate Certificate Coordinator.
- Students in the Plan A track in the MS degree in Allied Health without prior experience will be required to complete research and thesis activities in health promotion/health education as approved by the Graduate Certificate Coordinator.
- Students in MS or PhD programs other than Allied Health, without prior related experience in health promotion and/or health education will be required to complete a 120 hour externship approved by the Graduate Certificate Coordinator.
Application Procedure
The application process for the Graduate Certificate in HPHE must be completed before one-half of the credits toward the Certificate are earned. Candidates will submit
- a completed application form - copy submitted to DAHS; original to grad school.
- a statement of interest
- two letters of recommendation (not required for students in the MS in Allied Health program)
- official transcript(s)
- a current curriculum vitae
- documentation of related experience
Completion of the Graduate Certificate in HPHE
Graduate Certification in HPHE requires that a student
- File a Graduate Certificate Program in HPHE completion form before the last day of the add/drop period during the semester in which the student is completing the final course(s) for the certificate. No retroactive certificates will be granted.
- Submit a final plan of study to the Coordinator of the Graduate Program HPHE. 12 credits must be completed within the Department of Allied Health Sciences. Only courses with a grade of B or better will be counted toward the final plan of study.
