The Department of Allied Health Sciences offers 4 post-baccalaureate certificate programs. Certificate programs are open to applicants who have completed a minimum of a bachelor’s degree. Diagnostic Genetic Sciences Certificate Programs: 

Cytogenetics deals with the relationship between physical and mental abnormalities, reproductive problems and diseases such as cancer, and microscopic abnormalities in human chromosomes.  

Molecular Diagnostics prepares molecular genetic technologists to match donors and recipients for tissue and organ transplantation, diagnose human diseases, identify missing persons, determine parentage and assist in the identification of crime suspects.  

These one and a half year certificate programs are open to individuals who possess a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Cytogenetics, Medical Technology or a related subject area that includes coursework in biochemistry, microbiology and statistics, and have completed the appropriate prerequisite courses. These programs include a 6-month clinical program conducted at various sites throughout the United States. Admission is on a space available basis.

Medical Technology Certificate Program:(pending final approval) Medical Technology is a clinical laboratory profession that involves the analysis of blood and other body fluids using microbiology, biochemistry, hematology, immunology and other techniques. Medical technologists are essential members of the health care team who assist in the selection of appropriate laboratory analyses to diagnose human disease, determine optimal therapy and monitor the progress of treatments. The Medical Technology Certificate program is open to individuals who possess a bachelor's degree in Biology, Cytogenetics, or a related subject area and have completed the appropriate prerequisite courses. This one and a half year program includes a one-year clinical program conducted at Hartford Hospital; Hartford, CT. Acceptance to this program is on a limited space available basis.

Graduate Certificate in Health Promotion & Health Education (CHPHE):

The Allied Health Graduate Certificate in Health Promotion & Health Education (HPHE) is a one-year comprehensive program that encompasses health promotion, health education, nutrition and community health, and environmental health and is designed for individuals interested in pursuing certification in health promotion and education. A certified health educator specialist is a competent professional committed to continued development in the field of health education and health promotion. These individuals design, conduct and evaluate activities in a variety of settings to improve the health of all people. Certified health educators may pursue employment as patient educators, health education teachers, health coaches, community organizers, public health educators, and health program managers. Individuals who successfully complete the Allied Health Graduate Certificate in HPHE are eligible to take the Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) examination administered by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing Inc. (NCHEC). Acceptance to this program is on a limited space available basis. Candidates for the Certificate Program in HPHE must have a bachelors of arts or science degree in a health related field with an earned GPA >3.0. Students may be admitted on a provisional basis with a GPA of >2.6 upon discretion of the Allied Health Graduate Certificate Program Coordinator. Documentation of one or more years related experience in heath promotion and/or health education. Students without prior related experience in health promotion and health education must complete a 120 hour externship approved by the Allied Health Graduate Certificate Coordinator prior to receipt of the graduate certificate in HPHE.
