Research Overview
Dr. Copenhaver is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Allied Health Sciences with an emphasis on Health Promotion. His current research involves refining and evaluating behavioral HIV risk reduction interventions that target high risk drug users in community-based treatment settings. He is completing intervention pilot work with opioid-dependent HIV-infected patients for a NIDA-funded K23 career award. He is conducting exploratory work (NIDA-funded R21) that involves adapting and testing an evidence-based HIV risk reduction program for newly-released HIV-infected prisoners in Connecticut. Dr. Copenhaver is also conducting a randomized clinical trial (NIDA-funded R01) of a community-friendly HIV risk reduction intervention for drug users participating in an inner city methadone maintenance program in Connecticut. He has been at the University of Connecticut since 2002.
