Welcome to the Department of Allied Health Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. As Department Head, I want to thank you for your interest in the University of Connecticut and the academic programs in Allied Health Sciences.
Our Department has long been a leader in allied health education. If you are planning to major in Diagnostic Genetic Sciences, Dietetics, Medical Technology, or are undecided but have a general interest in a health-related career, then the Department of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Connecticut is ideally suited for you. Under our Allied Health Sciences major we have concentrations in Health Promotion, a Standard Plan, and Health Sciences track. Our professional advisors work with students to help define their interests, discuss possible career tracks, and select the appropriate courses. |
If you have academic aspirations to apply to a Masters or Doctoral level health education/practitioner programs (i.e. OT, PT, PA, Med School), you will be well served by majoring in AHS both in terms of preparation and academic advising.
Our department also has a vibrant faculty with diverse research interests. Opportunities abound for students at all levels to participate in community, interdisciplinary, translational and basic (laboratory) research. Undergraduate honors students, Master’s degree and Ph.D. students can train with faculty in our Graduate Program in Allied Health (GPAH). We also have a new graduate certificate program in Health Promotion and Health Education that will soon be accepting students (pending Board of Trustee approval in Fall ’08).
Remember, when you think Health, “think Allied Health!”
Please feel free to contact us with questions or if you need any additional information.
Best Regards,
Lawrence K. Silbart, MPH, Ph.D.
