CAREER OPTIONS IN DIETETICS

Why Dietetics? A career in Dietetics is a good choice if you:

  • Are interested in food, health promotion, disease prevention, and health care
When a student chooses a major in college, very often the question, “What can I do with this major?” arises. The scope of practice of dietetics is broad, enabling program graduates to pursue careers in many areas. Registered Dietitians are employed in:
  • Hospitals, outpatient centers, home care agencies, long-term care facilities and other health care institutions providing medical nutrition therapy and education, and/or managing food service systems
  • Sports nutrition and corporate wellness programs providing nutrition education and counseling
  • Food and nutrition-related businesses and industries working in consumer affairs or product development
  • Private practice providing services to food service companies, counseling individual clients, and/or consulting to a broad array of institutions and businesses
  • Community and public health setting s advising the public on ways to develop healthy eating habits
  • Sales positions in health related businesses such as pharmaceutical companies and medical supply companies
  • Universities, medical centers, or pharmaceutical companies teaching or participating in research
