Graduate Program in Allied Health Sciences
The Graduate Program in Allied Health (GPAH) offers dynamic educational experiences for individuals who strive to improve the health of individuals, communities, and beyond for students who have completed their entry-level education in a health field or who wish to pursue a career in health promotion. The courses and active participation in faculty’s health promotion research help students develop knowledge, skills, and competence in health promotion science and strategies to optimize personal and public health. Students become competent in the delivery of health promotion programs including planning, assessment, implementation and evaluation. The research experience advances health promotion science through culminating projects and dissemination of new knowledge in scientific meetings and publications. Graduates of our Program are employed in leadership, research, and clinical positions in public health, health care, worksite and research settings.
The Master of Science Program features an interdisciplinary approach to graduate education for the student who has completed their entry level education in a health field. It prepares health professionals to become effective leaders in an array of settings. The comprehensive resources at the University of Connecticut, as well as surrounding health care facilities, provide a diversified learning environment.
Opportunities for professional development are an integral part of the GPAH. Students may learn grant writing skills, publish in professional journals, and present at national meetings. All students are encouraged to collaborate with faculty in pursuit of their scholarly interests. Faculty and students regularly participate in research meetings to allow for the exchange of scholarly ideas and initiative that stimulate interdisciplinary collaboration in the department and college.
To accommodate the practicing health professional, courses are offered in the late afternoon and evening at the University of Connecticut at Storrs. The program may be pursued either part or full time.
Library facilities and services are extensive and include a modern library on the Storrs campus, the L.M. Stowe Library at the University of Connecticut's Health Center in Farmington as well as specialized libraries on the Storrs campus.
